Obituary of Michael Smith
Greensboro-Pastor Michael K. Smith, 52 entered into eternal rest Tuesday, August 31, 2010 as he was surrounded by his wife, sons, mother, and Elders.
Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 1:00PM Saturday, September 4, 2010 at St. Stephen United Church of Christ with Rev. Eric Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park.
A native of Kinston, Pastor Smith was the son of Lillian Smith Sutton and Napoleon Sutton. At age 11, he moved to Greensboro and attended Allen Jr. High School and graduated from Dudley High School Class of 76. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion and Philosophy from Shaw University in May 1999. He was Pastor of In His Hand Worship Center in Kernersville. Fondly and affectionately known as Libb to his family and close friends, Pastor Smith was truly blessed with a wonderful congregation of believers left to cherish his memory.
Survivors include his loving wife Dora Jean Miller Smith of the home; sons Michael K. Smith, Jr. and Marcus Kyle Smith both of Greensboro; parents Lillian Smith Sutton and Napoleon Sutton of Greensboro; aunts Rosa McCoy, Mary Smith, Dorothy Sutton, Hattie Whitfield, Anna Bell Carr, Ethel Edwards, and Melvia Thompson all of Kinston, and Sylvia Dunn of Cleveland, Ohio; Uncle Jolly Smith of Kinston; great-aunt Ruth Smith of Kinston; and a host of extended family and friends.
The family will visit with friends from 6PM-8PM Friday night at In His Hand Worship Center, 309 Pineview Drive in Kernersville. Pastor Smith will lie in state at St. Stephen United Church of Christ, 1000 Gorrell Street in Greensboro, from 12:30PM Saturday until time of service.
