Obituary of Berchel Winfree

Kernersville-Berchel Dewitt “Jack” Winfree, 80, went home to be with his Lord November 8, 2011 as he was surrounded by his loving family. Graveside Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM Friday November 11, 2011, with Rev. David Rorie officiating, at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory with full Military Honors being bestowed. A lifelong resident of Forsyth County, “Jack” was the son of the late Martha Bull and William Dewitt Winfree. He was married to the late Bessie Mae Stafford Winfree on August 23, 1953. He served his Country with the US Marines during the Korean Conflict with the 1st Marine Division and participated in the battle at Choson Reservoir. He was retired from AT&T “Western Electric” after 35 years of service. Survivors include his sons Douglas Winfree of Pinnacle, and Kenneth Winfree and Melanie of Kernersville; grandchildren Troy Winfree, Logan Winfree, Leah Winfree, Anah Winfree, and Matt Scott; great-grandchildren Eli Scott and Maddy Scott; sisters Wilma Pfaff and Zona Carter and her husband Willard; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family will visit with friends from 6-8pm Thursday evening at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
