Obituary of James Perdue

Kernersville- James Vernelle Perdue, 82, passed away on July 2, 2012. Better known as “Flea”, he never met a stranger but treated everyone as a friend. Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be held 11:00AM Saturday July 7, 2012 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Gibbons officiating. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. He was born September 1, 1929 to Hallie Bull and Clay Perdue, and lived in Kernersville his whole life. At the age of 13 James left school, working to assist his family following the tragic drowning of his father. In his early adult years he was co-owner of Community Cash Grocery Store. He was a charter member and former president of the Kernersville Jaycees and received the “Man of the Year” award. He retired in 1982 from the Kernersville Department of Public Works. In 1950 he married the love of his life Lois Marie Bullock who survives. He was a member of Kernersville Friends Meeting for more than 60 years and served on different committees of the Meeting. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by a sister Peggy Perdue Stuart, and brothers Herbert T. Perdue, Bobby E. Perdue, and Donald Perdue. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years Lois Marie Bullock; sons Michael Perdue and Marla of Kernersville, and Stanley Perdue and Brenda of Orange County, CA; sister Mildred “Snook” Echols of Kernersville; granddaughters Nikki Perdue and Kristin Perdue; grandsons Ryan Perdue and Justin Perdue; great-grandchildren Christopher, Gavin, Peyton, and June; and several special nieces and nephews. The family will visit with friends from 6:00-8:00PM Friday evening at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home.
