Obituary of Betty Holcomb

Kernersville-Betty Carolyn Holcomb, 69, of Kernersville moved to her Heavenly home on January 8, 2013. She was born October 16, 1943 in Wilmington, North Carolina to the late James Ragan and Evelyn Ragan Hedrick. Carolyn was married to Richard Holcomb for 51 wonderful years. Surviving to cherish her memory are one son, Rick Holcomb (Candy) of King, and 2 daughters, Tamara Bowen (Kevin) of Winston-Salem, and Tracy Cain (Kevin) of Kernersville. MawMaw will be especially missed by her granddaughter, Sara Ragan Cain. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Jimmy Ragan of Florida, Charles Ragan (Teresa) of Kernersville, and one sister, Martha Miller of Midway. She also leaves behind one godson, Douglas Swain of Kernersville. Carolyn was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church of Walkertown for many years. She enjoyed crafts, flower arranging, baking and shopping. Carolyn will be remembered by all who knew her for her loving heart and sweet smile. She especially loved her two dogs, Angel & Daisy. After many years of being a homemaker, Carolyn went to work at Forsyth Technical Community College where she retired after 10 years of service. Family will receive friends on Thursday January 10, 2013 from 6 - 8pm at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville. Funeral services will begin at 1:00pm on Friday January 11, 2013 at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walkertown with Dr. Bob Roberson, Rev. Steve Roberson, and Frank Shumate officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Gur Cemetery in Kernersville. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Roxanne Rothrock of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Hospice and Teresa Crews of the ALS Clinic at NCBH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Gospel Light Christian School, P.O. Box 70, Walkertown, NC 27051.
