Obituary of Edith Johnson

Kernersville-Edith L. Hartman Johnson, 70, left this life Thursday, February 21, 2013. Funeral Services to celebrate her life will be held 1:00PM Thursday February 28, 2013 at Main Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Dr. Jeff Patterson and Rev. Rick Carter officiating. A native of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, Edie was the daughter of the late Joseph Winfield Hartman and Mae Karnes Hartman. She graduated from Bloomsburg High School Class of ’60, and also attended Bloomsburg University. She later moved to California where she met her future husband, the late Jerry Johnson who was stationed there in the Navy. Following Jerry’s tour of duty, they lived in the Los Angeles area for many years. Edie owned an Escrow Company and Jerry was a kitchen design specialist. When they relocated to Kernersville, Edie was employed by First Bank of High Point until her retirement. In addition to her parents, Edie also was preceded in death by her husband Jerry M. Johnson, who died February 19, 2012. Edie served in several positions in the Order of the Eastern Star and most recently served as Treasurer. She was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church. She was a member of the local Weimaraner Dog Club. She continued being active in planning her High School Class reunions, enjoyed cross stitching, NASCAR racing, North Carolina & Duke basketball, and of course Penn State football. She was blessed with many faithful friends and neighbors who provided for both she, and her husband Jerry, with support and assistance during their last years. She is survived by one brother, Richard Hartman & his wife Alice of Harrisburg, PA; nephews Scott Hartman & his wife Barbara of Gettysburg, PA and Andrew Hartman of Harrisburg, PA; several cousins of the Bloomsburg area; and numerous nieces/nephews/great nieces/ great nephews in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at the church on Thursday in the church fellowship hall.
