Obituary of Mary Swink

Mary Fulton Swink passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010. She died peacefully, in her own bed with her loved ones around her. She was ninety-five years old. A service of Resurection and Celebration of life will be held Wednesday, November 10 at Lee's Chapel Methodist Church at 11:00 AM, conducted by the Reverend Carol Williams -Gilbert. A private interment will take place at Westminster Gardens prior to the service. A native of Guilford County, she was born September 4, 1915 to Mary Fulton and Albert Hambley Rudd. She was the third of nine children and is survived by a sister, Francis Thomas of Greensboro and a brother William Rudd of New York, NY. She was a member of Lee's Chapel Church United Methodist Church, a member of United Methodist Women, sang in the church choir for 30 years and was an active member of her Circle. Her passions were her family, church, traveling, her many, many friends and her Sunday lunches that were known and desired far and wide. She and her husband, Leo (who proceeded her in death) spent many fond hours together tending their garden. She was a special woman who loved, and was loved by many. Mary Fulton's sweet smile and graciousness remained with her until the end. She will be greatly missed by her family and all those who crossed her path. Survivors are her daughter, Lynne Swink Thigpen and son-in-law Frank Thigpen of Pinehurst; son Timothy Jackson Swink and daughter-in-law, Renee of Greensboro; grandchildren, Elizabeth Thigpen Landry (Aaron) of Southern Pines, Emily Thigpen Huntley (Todd) of Birmingham, Ala., Ginny Thigpen Sutton (Jason) of Southern Pines, Timothy Darin Swink (Andi) of Greensboro, Evan Jackson Swink of Asheville, eight grandchildren with two on the way. The family would like to thank Hospice and especially Monishia, Debbie and Adealia for their love and care of Mary Fulton. The family will receive friends after the service at the church or later at 2326 Fortune Lane in Greensboro. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lee's Chapel UMC or Hospice and Pallative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
