Obituary of Emma Miller O'Dell

Mrs. Emma Marie Miller O'Dell passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2010. Marie was born in Johnson City, Tennessee on June 5, 1918, to Daniel and Nora Miller. She was the loving wife of the late Eugene Thomas O'Dell, nurturing mother of daughter Mary O'Dell and son, Tom O'Dell (Becky) and grandsons Seth, Adam, and Matthew, all of Greensboro. She is also survived by sisters Kathryn Hobson of Johnson City, TN and Georgia Drake (Robert) of Lexington, KY and many loving nieces and a nephew. As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend she was a living witness of the love of Christ. Marie began her service to others as a school volunteer for her children's activities. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed needlework, along with working with flowers and entertaining. She was especially eager to travel with family and friends. Marie was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church having served with Mobile Meals, circles, and participating in various roles of servitude during the years. She was a member of PEO ' Chapter J, Greensboro. She assisted in organizing several bridge and dinner groups and always enjoyed the fellowship of her friends. Burial will be in Johnson City, Tennessee on Wednesday, December 29th, 2010. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marie's memory to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3906 Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27410, Alight Foundation, 604 Green Valley Road, Suite 410, Greensboro, NC 27408, or Moses Cone Cancer Center, 501 N Elam Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27403.
