Obituary of Dorothy Oates

Mrs. Dorothy 'Mama Dot' Oates, 87, went to meet her Lord and Savior on January 2, 2011 with her loving family by her side. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Chapel, with the Reverend Mark Sink and the Reverend Jack Moody officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Mama Dot was born August 1, 1923, in Chatham County to Julius and Mattie Leonard. She was the wife of the late Fred Jackson Oates, who passed away December 15, 2010. She was a faithful member of Lankford Memorial Baptist Church. Mama Dot spent her time working on arts and crafts, visiting shut-ins, playing Uno, and watching professional wrestling. She loved to nurture and care for others Mama Dot is survived by her daughters, Betty Oates Trogdon and husband George, and Brenda Oates Michael, all of Greensboro; grandchildren, Jimmy Trogdon, Darrell Trogdon and wife Jennifer, all of Greensboro, David Michael and wife Audrey, of Browns Summit, Angela 'Sissy' Ellis and husband Johnnie, of Siler City; great-grandchildren, Candice Trogdon and fiancée Reid Terrell, Amber Tate and husband Alonzo, Chad, Gage and Kirsti Trogdon, all of Greensboro, David Ellis, of Siler City, Brandon Brassard, of Browns Summit; great-great-granddaughter, Briana Tate, of Greensboro; brothers, Jesse Leonard and wife Aileen, of Bennett, Al Jack Leonard and wife Grace, of Burlington. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home, and at other times at the family home.
