Obituary of David Howerton

Mr. David B. Howerton, 56, of Elon, died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Moses Cone Hospital. A memorial service will be held 6:00 pm Tuesday, at Hope Christian Fellowship Church, 610 Muirs Chapel Road, Greensboro, with the Reverend Steve Gallop officiating. Mr. Howerton was born in New Bern, North Carolina to Grady Lee and Martha Cheek Howerton. He served in the US Air Force, worked for Goodwill and the Salvation Army. He was affectionately known across the Triad as 'Diamond Dave' at Green's Supper Club where he was the Karaoke DJ. Mr. Howerton is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Howerton, of Greensboro; sons, Paul Howerton, of Greensboro, Lee Howerton and wife Sherron, of Fort Lewis, Washington; granddaughter, Maya Leigh Howerton, of Fort Lewis; sister, Karen Howerton, of Greensboro; Steve Howerton and wife Julie, of N. Myrtle Beach, Drew Howerton and wife Kristi, of Virginia Beach. The family will be greeting friends from 7 to 9 pm Wednesday at Benders Tavern, 4517 W Market Street, Greensboro, honoring 'Diamond Dave'. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salvation Army, 1311 S. Eugene Street, Greensboro, NC 27406, or Bynum Fund Charitable Donations ARMC, 1240 Huffman Mill Road, Burlington, NC 27216.
