Obituary of Swannie Purvis Turner

Swannie Myrick Purvis Turner, 99, a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. She had been a resident of Heartland Living and Rehabilitation Center since 2005. Swannie was born in Randolph County on May 23rd, 1912 to the late Zeb Vance Myrick and Lydia Lowdermilk Myrick. Swannie completed a grade 7 education before going to work at Southern Webbing Mill at the age of 14 where she worked for 50 years before retiring. She married the late Walter Purvis in 1930 and they were blessed with two daughters, Mary Lou and Myrl. After Walter's death in 1949, Swannie worked very hard to care and provide for her young family. Swannie became a member of Palm Street Christian Church in 1919 where she served actively for many years and where she received an abundance of blessings from her loving church family. Swannie passionately loved God and unconditionally loved all her family. After being a widow for over 50 years, Swannie wed James (Jim) Arthur Turner in 1999 during their golden years. They were married eleven years before Jim's passing in early 2010. Swannie touched the lives of many people with her warm smile and friendly disposition. She always had a sense of humor and loved to have a laugh. Swannie loved to talk to others, especially about her wonderful Heavenly Father and wanted everyone to know and trust Him and to meet her one day in Heaven. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Myrl Crawford, great grandchild Dylan Whiteside, brothers Clayton Myrick, Colon Myrick, Lexie Myrick and Howard Myrick and sisters Edna Wren and Eula Reeves. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou Moore: grandchildren, Charles Moore, Michael Moore, Delores Whiteside (Eddie), Wes Crawford, Suzanne Crawford Turanich (George); great grandchildren, Clara Whiteside, Dalton Whiteside, Christopher Sifford, Amanda Sifford, Bradie Turanich, Brenden Turanich and Breton Turanich. The family especially wishes to express their heart felt thanks for the loving care Swannie has received from the staff at Heartland Living and Rehabilitation Center for these many years and for the level of commitment the staff imparts to their residents. A special thank you also to Evercare and Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro for the much appreciated added care they lovingly provided to Swannie and her family. And lastly, thank you to faithful friends and family that have devotedly made time to visit with Swannie over these last few years just to talk with her and have a laugh. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 28th at 11:00 AM at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Robert Boyd officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home is assisting the family. Family and friends may also pay their final respects at the funeral home Friday prior to 5:00PM.
