Melvin Franklin Thornton Melvin Franklin Thornton, 85, of Greensboro passed away on September 24, 2011. Melvin was born in Rockingham County to John and Bertha Tickle Thornton. He was retired from Duke Energy after many years of employment. He served his country in the US Army. Melvin's funeral service will be 10:30 am Tuesday, September 27 at Christ Wesleyan Church, 2400 S. Holden Rd., Greensboro with Pastors Keith Carroll and Jonathan Lewis will be officiating. The interment will be at Lakeview Memorial Park. Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Bobbie. He is survived by his, daughter, Sharon (Len) Peeples, son, Mark Thornton; two grandchildren, Nicholas Peeples and Matthew Thornton; and Matthew's mother, Alice Phillips; a sister, Mozelle Belch; a special and loving friend, Lorine Tate and many nieces and nephews The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8 pm at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home.
