Obituary of Avis Herrmann Sigmon

Greensboro Avis Herrmann Sigmon Avis Herrmann Sigmon, 85, of Forest Oaks and a 62 year resident of Greensboro who was suffering from a lengthy illness died peacefully at home 12:15 am October 14th. There will be a Graveside Service at Eastview Cemetery in Newton, NC on Thursday October 20th at 2 pm. Avis was a native of Louisville, KY. She was the daughter of Edward Charles and Jessie Herrmann. She received her undergraduate degree at UNCG in 1965 and Masters in Education in 1968. She worked briefly in the school system, and then began a career in the court system. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. James Willard Sigmon, who practiced general dentistry on Cornwallis Drive until 1971. She is survived by her son, Dr. James Gregg Sigmon, a 1967 graduate of Grimsley High School, who practices family medicine in Wilson, NC. His family; includes his wife, Sandra Root Sigmon; his children, Patrick, Brian, Kelly and Rebecca. Special thanks to Hospice of Greensboro and Home Instead Senior Care who for almost three years cared for Avis bed bound state so thoroughly that she never experienced a skin lesion.
