Obituary of Roy Durham

Mr. Roy Mason Durham, 100, of Greensboro, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Chapel, with the Reverend Bruce Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Mr. Durham was born on March 20, 1911, to John R. and Mary Pegram Durham. He was raised in Oak Ridge and moved to Greensboro where he married the love of his life, the late Karl Elizabeth Tate Durham and went to work for Cone Mills Proximity Plant, retiring after over 43 years of service. He was the oldest member of Eller Memorial Baptist Church. He is well remembered for the stand he had behind his home where children would stop on their way to Proximity School and again on their way home, for drinks and snacks. Mr. Durham is survived by his daughters, Patricia Miller (Lloyd) of Lake City, FL, and Rebecca Smith of Gibsonville; son, Wayne Durham (Susie) of Ocean Isle; 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home.
