Obituary of Charles Welborn

Greensboro Charles E. Welborn (Charlie), 64, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 16, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl Crabtree Wellborn and Otho James Welborn. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday November 20 at Muir's Chapel United Methodist Church; Muir's Chapel Road with the interment will be in the mausoleum at Guilford Memorial Park. Charles loved sports and the outdoors. He played football for Ben L. Smith High School and received the National Outstanding Youth Sports Award. As a Boy Scout, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the order of the Arrow. Charlie coached Little League and Pony League Baseball where he made many good friends and was a Scoutmaster for Troop 326 of the Boy Scouts of America for several years. He also enjoyed camping with his family and Western Square Dancing. Charlie retired from American Can Company and from the City of Greensboro. During his career with the City of Greensboro, he worked at the Greensboro Coliseum and retired from the Parks and Recreation division. Charlie is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gail White Welborn, his son Brian Welborn of High Point, and adopted daughter, Cora, of the home and a grandson, Randy, also of the home. The family wishes to express their thanks to all of the special caregivers at Adams Farm Dialysis Center for taking such good care of Charlie over the years of his treatments. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 19 from 6 ' 8 pm at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Gideons International or Muir's Chapel United Methodist Church.
