Obituary of Victoria Dorsett

Victoria 'Vicki' Newby Dorsett, 61, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011, surrounded by her family and walked into the loving arms of God. Vicki was born in Guilford County on January 22, 1950 to Joseph and Ola Newby. She attended Northeast High School. Her first job was secretary to the plant manager of the Sherwin Williams plant. She also worked for Sara Lee and VF Corp. Her last job was with Wesley Long Cancer Center where she worked in the Radiology and Oncology Departments. Vicki was the family historian. One of her greatest gifts was her ability to organize and record memories of events and births. She kept quite a few picture albums with memories describing the photographs. Whenever there was a birth, Vicki would record it on the family tree; and due to her work, the next generation will know the family's history. Vicki loved music and dancing, especially ballroom dancing. She cherished animals and always fed the birds at her back door. She often enjoyed babysitting her nieces and nephews. Many of those times were spent eating stovetop popped popcorn, drinking Pepsi and watching a favorite movie. One of her nieces says that Vicki was not only her aunt but her second mom. Anyone who truly knew Vicki would agree that she was a kind, caring and compassionate woman who believed in God's love and grace for us all. She dreamed of a world of goodness and charity. Vicki was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by nine brothers and sisters; Annette Beaton (Bruce), Ellen Levan, Elaine Irvin (Ron), Frances Meriweather, Danny Newby, Thomas Newby, Beth Stowman, Lewis Newby and Lindley Newby. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home.
