Obituary of Charlene Compton

Mrs. Charlene (Chic) Compton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Beacon Place Hospice at the age of 93. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at First Baptist Church Chapel, with the Reverend Steve Pressley officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Mrs. Compton, Chic to all her beloved friends, was born in Randolph County and moved to Greensboro with her family in her younger years. She later met and married Charles M. Compton, Sr. who died in 1975. She worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company until her retirement at age 65. She was a Charter Member of the Rushettes Club and also the Rebekah's. For many years she had been ballroom dancing with the Fred Astaire Studio. She loved to dance and continued until after her 92nd birthday. Another of her passions was travelling; both with the Rushettes, friends and the church. The beach was one of her favorite places to visit. Picking up sea shells was a never-ending surprise for her as she came across all the beautiful God-given gifts just lying in the sand for anyone for see and fee and touch. Mrs. Compton was one of the most generous, loving, kind and caring women ever put on this earth. She was from a time of elegance and grace which she carried all her life in her soft, quiet manner. She lived her life to the fullest and was blessed to have many friends and a loving family. Mrs. Compton is survived by three children, Charles M. Compton, Jr., Patricia C. Kincheloe and Mary L. Allen. She is predeceased by her sister, Juanita Scott and her brother, Robert Bryce Yow. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be especially missed by her youngest grandchild, Megan Lynn Kincheloe, who had been so close from the day she was born. All of us she left behind were blessed to have known, loved and been loved by this amazing woman. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405. Online condolences may be sent to www.lambethtroxlerfuneralhome.com. Lambeth Troxler Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
