Obituary of Charles Spencer

Mr. Charles Augustus Spencer died Monday December 28, 2009 at Moses Cone Hospital. A 1:30 pm Memorial Service was held at First Lutheran Church on Wednesday December 30, 2009. Inurnment in the FLC Memorial Garden will be private. Mr. Spencer was born in Greenville, S.C. November 7, 1921. He was a 1939 graduate of Parker High School, where he was a member of the band. He later graduated from Clemson University in the Class of '43 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He was member of the Clemson Marching Band and Concert Band. He served his country during World War II in the South Pacific for 2 1/2 years. His entire business career was spent at Burlington Industries with retirement in 1986 after 40 years of service. Mr. Spencer was a former member of the Lions Club, the Greensboro Investment Club, Starmount Country Club and the Step Set Dance Club. Mr. Spencer is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen P. Spencer of the home, one daughter, Sharon Spencer Hyder and one grandson, Claude Pritchard Davis IV, both of Greensboro. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to First Lutheran Church where Mr. Spencer a member since 1960.
