Obituary of Lois Cobb Murphy

Lois Talley Murphy, 88, of Greensboro died peacefully on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at her home and now rejoices in heaven with God, family and friends who went before her. She will be greatly missed and remembered for her kindness, wonderful sense of humor, and her gentle loving spirit. Her passing will be felt by the many lives she touched. She was born in Leaksville (Eden), NC on January 19, 1921 to Carl and Ethel Talley who predeceased her. She was preceded in death by her sister, Pauline Talley Leonard, and two brothers, Robert and James Talley, and her first husband Vernon A. Cobb. She attended Rankin High School and retired after 38 ½ years as a weaver at Cone Textile Mills, White Oak Plant. She loved her work and spoke with fondness of her co-workers. She lived for her family and loved them deeply. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. Her greatest joy in life were her four children, Dr. Faye Cobb Hodgin of Greensboro, Jean Cobb Henderson (Richard) of Greensboro, Dr. Ronald Michael Cobb (Nancee) of Panama City, Florida, and her eldest son Jerry Wayne Cobb (Barbara) of Greensboro, who predeceased her and was the greatest loss of her life. She is survived by many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, her 'adopted' children, Robert Warren Hodgin of Jacksonville, Florida, Beckey Knott Hight (Jim) of Wilmington, NC, and Ralph Younts of Reidsville, NC and her devoted niece Nancy Leonard Newman of Brown Summit who was always there for her. She loved God and her church and was a devoted follower of the Primitive Baptist Faith and a member of Gilliam Primitive Baptist Church. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Stephen Fry, Dr. Brian Crenshaw, and Dr. Mary Parker of the Lebauer Group for their special care and compassion during these past years. A sincere thank you is extended to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro for their home care support during the past weeks. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 6th at Lambert-Troxler Funeral Home on Wendover Avenue. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7th at the Lambert-Troxler Chapel and burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
