Obituary of Gertrude Hodnett

Mrs. Gertrude Elizabeth Swaim Hodnett, 94 died February 14, 2010 at Moses Cone Hospital, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday February 17, 2010 at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ, 2400 Mount Hope Church Road, Whitsett, NC, with Reverend Lloyd Spencer and Reverend Richard Byrd officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Guilford County, she was a longtime resident of Greensboro. Mrs. Hodnett worked many years as an office nurse to Doctor Joe Hensen and for the late Doctors J.G. Thomas and John Allgood. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Greensboro and was active as long as her health permitted. In addition to her parents, David H. and Nell H. Swain, she was preceded in death by her husband J.S. Hodnett; two sisters, Iris Swaim and Grace S. Sartin and two brothers; Philip and David B. Swaim. She is survived by her daughter; Billie Jo Wall Olsen; her sons; Stephen D. Wall and wife Amy , Philip G.Wall and wife Brenda; five grandsons; Mark , John and Steven Olsen, Stephen and Travis Wall; two granddaughters Stephanie Hunt and Shannon Cobb; four great grandsons and two great granddaughters. Additional survivors include her sisters; Judith S. Stern; Rachel S. McFarling and her husband Hugh, Patsy S. Levens and husband David, four brothers William D. and wife Anne, Donald and wife Mary Jo, Mitchell and Anna, Michael and Barbara and many nieces and nephews The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday night at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home.
