Obituary of Vernie Cockman

Mr. Vernie T. Cockman, age 91 passed away Saturday February 27, 2010 at Moses Cone Hospital. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday March 3, 2010 at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service with Reverend W. Ray Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Mr. Cockman was born September 4, 1918 in Guilford County, NC to Causie and Dora Mae Hawks Cockman. He served his country proudly in the Army Air Corps, was retired from Lorillard and was also employed by Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home for over 40 years. Vernie was a charter and lifetime member of American Legion Cone Post 386 and Oak Forest Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by a daughter LaVerne Johnson, two grandchildren, two sisters and a brother. Survivors include his wife of 72 years Imogene N. Cockman, two daughters; Evon C. Wilcox and husband Jimmy, Nonnie C. Fields and husband Jerry; a son Keith Cockman and wife Ginny; a son in law Marvin Johnson, Sr.; a brother Paul Cockman and wife Jean, twelve grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and numerous extended family members. The family would like to thank the staffs of Carriage House and Moses Cone Palliative Care for their professionalism and care of Mr. Cockman. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home and all other times at the home of Evon and Jimmy Wilcox.
