Obituary of Carmer Gore

Mr. Carmer Tayloe Gore, 91, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Brighton Gardens in Greensboro. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Friday, March 26, 2010, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 2105 West Market Street, Greensboro, NC, with a reception following the service at Starmount Forest Country Club. Mr. Gore was born January 31, 1919,in Weldon, NC. He was married to Mrs. Mary Bonar McConnell Gore who passed away September 23, 2008. They were married August 4, 1942 in Armagh, Northern Ireland and were married for 66 years. Mr. Gore was a graduate of Oak Ridge Military Institute and the University of North Carolina, at Chapel Hill. Mr. Gore served his country in the US Army, retiring after 28 years of service. He served in WW II and in Viet Nam and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Tom and Bon were both avid golfers and long-time members of Starmount Forest Country Club. He was predeceased by his parents Cicero and Margaret Gore, his sister Margaret A. Smith and his brother Fred C. Gore. Survivors include four children, Jean Porter and husband, Don of Charlotte, N.C., Charles Gore and wife, Sandy of Wilmington, N.C., Mary Gray of Springfield, Va., Thomas Gore and wife, Anne of Golden, Colorado, 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carmer's name to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro. Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home is assisting the Gore Family.
