Obituary of Fred Gardner

Mr. Fred K. Gardner, 85, of Greensboro, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Blumenthal's Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Chapel, with the Reverend Abraham Kim officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Mr. Gardner was born May 30, 1924, in Guilford County, the youngest of six children to Jesse and Callie Patterson Gardner. He graduated from Bessemer High School where he loved and took part in all types of sports. He served in the US Army Air Corp during WW II, and was a lifetime member of Proximity United Methodist Church where he taught the adult Sunday School for over 50 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Donnie Vee Holyfield and Maler Hanner, brothers, J. B. Gardner Jr. and Thomas E. Gardner (Chub). Mr. Gardner is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Blanch Murchison Gardner; son, Knight Gardner and wife Kim, son, Tim Gardner and wife Kathy, all of Greensboro; brother, Walter Gardner and wife Sybil; grandson, Matthew Gardner (Melissa), granddaughter, Erin Gardner Ussery (John), great-grandsons, Jack and Finley Ussery and great-granddaughter Ava Gardner; numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home.
