Obituary of James Clinton "Jim" Smith

James Clinton “Jim” Smith, 94, of Kernersville passed away peacefully Sunday, February 18, 2024.

 

A native of Guilford, Connecticut, Jim was the husband of 64 years to the late Jean Muriel McLaughlin Smith and the son of Clinton James Smith and Marjorie Ling Smith, both deceased. Jim was a star athlete inhigh school football, basketball and baseball. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War and also entertained the troops in the form of Boxing. Jim was a life-long fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants.

 

Survivors include his son, Craig McLaughlin “Smitty” Smith (Denise Smith); two daughters, Lisa Grimaldi (Anthony), and Jennifer Turner (Guy); five grandchildren, Jessica Smith, Zak Yabrosky (Erika Spino), Ryan Smith (Tory), Tory Vibert (Emily Callo), and Craig Vibert (Taryn); several great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Danny Sowa; and his beloved cat, Wanda.

 

In addition to his wife and parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Todd Andrew Smith; sister, Ella Smith Sowa; and special aunt and uncle, Estelle and Jerry Dorrie whom helped raise Jim.

 

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at a later date.
