Diane Townsend

Obituary of Diane Eury Townsend

Diane Eury Townsend of Kernersville passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 9, 2023.  The family will hold a private memorial service in honor of Diane, and she will be buried in Salisbury, NC at the National Cemetery next to her husband of over 50 years, Richard Dean Townsend.

Diane was born on October 26, 1943, in Charlotte, NC to the late Mary Zora Eury and William Ernest Eury. Diane is survived by her older brother, Don Eury of Pineville, NC; her daughters, Angela Townsend MacLean (Troy MacLean) of Stoneville, NC and her grandchildren Austin Daniel Wall, Lyndon Alexander “Alex” Wall, and Wyatt MacLean; Amy Michelle Townsend (Matt Stockdale) of Pleasant Garden, NC; and Alison Townsend Snider of State Road, NC and her grandchildren Christopher “Michael” Snider and Robert “B” Dean Snider.

Diane attended Mt. Pisgah Academy and Shenandoah Valley Academy, where she graduated.  Diane attended Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI, where she met her late husband, Richard Townsend.  Diane worked as a teacher in Mocksville, NC while her husband was in the Army.  Then they moved to Maryland where she worked for a real estate attorney and then had her first daughter before moving to St. Louis, MO and having her second two daughters.

Diane was a loving mother and homemaker to her three daughters and five grandchildren.  She was an avid animal lover and loved her cats, dogs, and birds.  Diane also loved bird watching and feeding the wildlife in her back yard, including the birds, squirrels, raccoons, and deer. Diane also loved caring for her flowers and plants and could tell you the name of most plants and birds. She enjoyed traveling to the Outer Banks with her husband each year.

Once her daughters were in high school, Diane helped to care for Robert Gerard Whelen III and Ryan John Whelen, who were like her own grandchildren.  She worked at Baptist Hospital Homecare until her retirement. She was then able to care for her own grandchildren, Michael, and “B” Snider, who were the joy of her life.

Diane believed strongly in Christian education, and loved her church family at Triad Adventist Fellowship, where she was active in her Sabbath School class.  A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023, at the Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC at 11:00AM.
