I was very sad to read of Ken's passing after returning from vacation on Friday June 23. We have known each other for 40 years, and have had many great outings together including golf, lunches, and dinners. We have not seen each other as often in the past several years; however, when I would run into Ken, we would simply pick up where we left off. He was very bright and had a great business acumen as well as a great sense of humor. My deepest condolences go out to Peggy, and all family members and hope that time will mend your heavy hearts! I will always cherish our friendship as well as the fond memories of our times together.
My thoughts and Prayers are with Peggy and the Family.

In January 2021, I was a full-time graduate student at WCU in my last semester of pursuing my MBA. I was assigned to Ken Flynt, Professor of Finance in the College of Business at WCU. This is all that I knew of Ken before becoming his graduate assistant. Over the course of the Spring semester, I had the honor of witnessing the positive impact Ken had on his students. At times, there were a few students who would leave him feeling a bit frustrated as to why they weren't performing as well as he knew they could. He continued to put them first and never gave up on being their cheerleader. I am grateful for the mentorship Ken provided me and his positive influence on my life.
Sending my heartfelt condolences to Ken's family.

Somewhere, a common man passes every day with barely a shaking of a leaf. In Ken's case, the bell truly tolled for me.
I will miss him dearly. Thoughts and prayers to all those left behind.

I was blessed to meet Ken and work alongside of him for twelve years in the college of business! I cherish those years as well as learn lots from Ken. I can see Ken today coming across the hall with that skip in his walk. At that point I knew Ken was on a mission! Ken was an outstanding gentleman.
Peggy thank you for all your hugs each time I got to see your smiling face. You and Ken will always hold a very special place in my heart.
A friend always, Sharron Crain

I was introduced to Ken by his son Jay Hawkins in about the year 2000. Ken became my friend and a partner in my business. He was my friend, business associate and a trusted ally. Though we did not work together very long I am forever blessed and grateful to have know and learned from this very kind and generous man.
