Obituary of Thomas B. "Tom" Wood, Jr.

Thomas B. Wood Jr., of Kernersville, NC, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Baptist Hospital. Born in Wilmington, NC, September 3rd, 1943 to Thomas and Mary Wood Sr. and graduated from New Hanover High School. He and his family moved to Trinity, NC in 1984. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. 

Tom proudly served in the United States Army from 1965-1967 and served in the Reserves till 1971. He was awarded the Sharpshooter (Rifle) and National Defense Service Medals. He could often be seen proudly wearing his Veterans hat. He then worked for the city of Wilminton for 15 years before moving to Trinity, NC and worked for Emory Wilson and Associates until retirement. Tom was an active member of Park Place Baptist Church in Thomasville, NC. 

Tom and Joan thoroughly enjoyed camping and traveling to anywhere they possibly could, especially Gatlinburg, TN. His first love was hunting, but as the years went on, he turned his attention to fishing, especially with his grandson, and greatly enjoyed getting to know the fishermen around Kernersville Lake.

Tom loved his family, especially his wife of 55 years. He enjoyed multiple walks a day around the farm he lived at in Kernersville, NC, and always kissed Joan before walking out the door. He loved the outdoors till his final breath.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Thomas and Mary Wood; his sisters, Mary Elizabeth, and Barbara Crocker. Left to cherish his memory are is devoted wife, Joan Kennedy Wood; daughter, Marlene Wood Rose, husband Donny, and children Cheza and Alex of Wilmington, NC; son Tommy Wood III, wife Kristi, and children Autumn, Ivy, and Elijah of Kernersville, NC; sister, Linda Millis and family of Hampstead, NC; brother, Clarence Wood, wife Mary, and family of Wilmington NC.

The family will greet friends at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Kernersville Chapel, 213. W. Mountain Street, Kernersville, NC 27284 on February 11, 2023 from 2-3 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow beginning at 3:00 pm officiated by Pastor Kevin Thoman. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Park Place Baptist Church 201 Kern St. Thomasville, NC 27360. 

The family is at peace knowing that Tom is with Jesus our Lord and Savior.
