Obituary of Gerald "Jerry" Rae Buchanan

Gerald “Jerry” Rae Buchanan passed away on Thursday, February 2nd, 2023 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.  He was 79 years old.

Jerry was born on July 27, 1943 in High Point, North Carolina to the late Milton Rives Buchanan and Hazel Brown Buchanan.  He attended High Point Central High School before graduating from NC State University with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Linda Carl Teague in 1965.  They were a devoted couple throughout their marriage of 57 years.  

After a short stint at an engineering firm, Jerry went into his family’s plumbing and HVAC business which he managed for over fifty-five years.  He was passionate about his trade and enjoyed being able to help his valued customers many of whom he enjoyed having long-term friendships with.  As a second-generation plumber, Jerry was happy to pass his trade on to the next generation.

Jerry stayed active throughout his life and extended his passion to various hobbies including weightlifting, sky diving, flight lessons and his overall love of learning.  He was a regular at the gym up until shortly before his death.  

Jerry is survived by his spouse Linda and his two children Donald Brian and wife Margaret, and Marnie Elizabeth.  Jerry is also survived by his sister Dolores Foutch.  He was preceded in death by his brother Donald Buchanan.  Jerry was known as “Pops” and was the proud grandfather of six grandsons, Scott (Joslynn), Jay and Andy Buchanan; Carter and Cael Ellenberger; and Emory Gibson.  He had one great-granddaughter Eloise Buchanan.

A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday February 7th, 2023 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1225 Chestnut Drive, High Point, NC.  The family will receive friends afterwards in the Asbury Room.  Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont.
