Obituary of Barbara Berrier Burroughs

Barbara Berrier Burroughs, 87, passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, December 4th at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, NC.  A native of Eden, NC, she was the daughter of the late Alton & Violet Berrier.

She was a Graduate of Troutman’s Beauty School in Greensboro, NC and furthered her education, graduating from Winston- Salem Barber School, NC, Clairol Beauty School in New York, NY, and Advance Beauty & Barber School in Atlanta, GA

She owned and operated several beauty shops in Eden and Reidsville, NC for 21 years and was also a well established barber and beautician for 23 years.

At the age of 44 she decided to change careers and was a Graduate of St. Mary’s Nursing School in Jackson, MS. She worked at Friends Home Nursing Home, Maryfield Nursing Home, and Presbyterian Nursing Home in Greensboro, NC- working well into her 70’s. Nursing was her true calling as she loved all of her patients and enjoyed bringing comfort to those who needed it.

She was a member of Life Community in Greensboro, NC.  There she was very involved with the Women's Ministry and Outreach programs.  She was a Red Cross Volunteer and helped during Hurricane Katrina.  

Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and daughter who loved her family deeply. She loved the Lord and was ready to join her loved ones in heaven.

Barbara is survived by her daughters: Wanda (Michael) Clark of Bluefield, Va, Shelia Lewis of Thomasville, NC and her son, Frank (Lisa) Otis Burroughs Jr., of Greensboro, NC., 7 Grandchildren, 16 Great-Grandchildren, and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William Rex (Johnny) Berrier, Lamuel (Tommy) Berrier, and Howard Berrier: her daughter, Brenda Williams Lynch: grandson, Ryan Douglas Burroughs.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Hinkle Hospice House for the care that gave our mother.

A visitation will be held from 11AM to 12PM Friday, December 9, 2022 at Pierce- Jefferson Funeral Service, Lambeth Chapel. The Funeral Service will begin at 12PM with burial following at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 1821 Ashley Loop Road, Reidsville, NC 27320.
