Sinh Doan

Obituary of Sinh Van Doan

Sinh Van Doan, 49, known to some as “Seth”, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at Kernersville Medical Center after a courageous four-year long cancer battle. Sinh was born in Tra Vinh, Vietnam on October 9, 1972. Sinh and his family settled in Winston-Salem, NC after moving to the United States in 1980. He and his family later moved to Kernersville, NC in 1991 where they continue to reside.

He attended East Forsyth High school and Forsyth Technical Community College. Sinh was an accomplished aircraft mechanic retiring from HAECO Americas after his cancer diagnosis. He was also a skilled handyman and auto mechanic and could repair anything from a leaky faucet to a car engine. Sinh was an excellent chef and he particularly enjoyed cooking Vietnamese cuisine. He was THE grill master and created his legendary steaks and ribs with nothing more than a few simple spices and a Weber charcoal grill.

Spending time with family and friends, especially over a great meal and a beer was one of his greatest pleasures. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, watching tv and horror movies, fishing, weightlifting, poker, shooting pool, camping, traveling to the beach, sitting on his deck watching and listening to the birds, and taking his dogs, Hoss and Duke, on neighborhood walks.

Sinh epitomized courage, strength, and optimism. He endured countless rounds of chemo, immunotherapy, surgeries, office visits, scans, and hospital visits with a smile on his face and hope in his heart until the very end. He was a great conversationalist and never met a stranger or missed an opportunity to make a new friend. Sinh’s incredible smile, loud contagious laughter, witty sense of humor, charm, and cheerful personality will be missed by all.

Sinh was preceded in death by grandparents Hue Van Nguyen, Dam Thi Dinh, Phan Van Thin, and Dao Thi Bong. Left to cherish his memory are his soulmate, love of his life, and caregiver Angel Medlin Wyrick; son Benjamin Van Doan; parents Hong and Ha Phan Doan; brothers Minh Doan, Ngoc Doan and Xengyeng; sister Dep Goza and Kevin; nephews Kaleb Goza and Grand Doan; faithful companions Hoss, his Pitbull, Duke, his Boxer; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022, from 6 PM – 8 PM at Pierce Jefferson Funeral Service Kernersville Chapel. Services to celebrate Sinh’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Pierce Jefferson Funeral Services Kernersville Chapel. Cremation to immediately follow service.

The family would like to thank Dr. Demetria Jacks and the staff at Novant Health Cancer Institute for their care and compassion for Sinh over the years.
