Obituary of Elsie S. Butler

Elsie S. Butler, 95, went home to be with her Lord March 10, 2020.

*Private* Graveside Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held 2:00PM Saturday March 21, 2020 at her Snyder Family Cemetery located adjacent to the Gethsemane United Methodist Church Cemetery just off N. Church Street at Hwy 150 in Greensboro.

A lifelong resident of Guilford County, Elsie was the daughter of the late Hilda Alma Elkins and Samuel Spruce Snyder. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Maurice Butler; sisters, Frances Bowman, and Leah Glosson; brothers, Bernard Snyder, E.A. Snyder, Herbert Snyder, and S.J. Snyder.

Elsie was retired from the former Western Electric after almost 50 years of service. She was a lifelong member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. She, and her husband Maurice, were original members of the “Gethsemane Quartet” a gospel singing group known throughout the Southeast for their ministry in song.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Butler Burke and James of Suwanee, Georgia; son, Ted M. Butler and Dana of Greensboro; grandchildren, Misty Curtis Moss and Lonnie, Crista Curtis Partlowe, Kelly Butler Bailiff and Darin, and Todd Matthew Butler and Courtney; great-grandchildren, Chase, Miles, Sam, Anna, Caroline, Ella, Lucas, Reese, Daniel, Marley, and Matthew; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
