Obituary of Frances Skinner Brown

Frances Boyce Brown, age 93, of Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Greensboro, NC, died at her residence on Monday, September 4, 2017. Frances Skinner Boyce, born August 14, 1924 in Clintonville, CT, was the youngest of seven children of Ivan Albert and Eva May Skinner Boyce. When she was 8 years old, the family (father, mother, brother Newton, and Grandmother Boyce) moved to the Goff Block in Greene, New York; the home of her Grandmother Ella Goff Boyce. Frances graduated from Greene High School, was a Girl Scout, a Girl Scout leader, and was lifetime member of Central Baptist Church in Greene. On November 19, 1941, she married Gordon Clarence Brown. They celebrated over 60 years of marriage when Gordon died in May 2002. She is survived by her children: Wayne Brown (Marty) of Ocala, FL, Marcia Collins (Harry) of Edison, NJ, Gary Brown (Patty) of Summerfield, NC, Ivan Brown (Janet) of Long Branch, NJ, Linda Schick (Jim) of Charlotte, NC, 11 Grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Long-time residents of Greene, NY, will remember Frances was Deputy Clerk-Treasurer of the Village for many years from 1964 to 1979. In 1982, Gordon and Frances moved to Lakeland, Florida, then later to Charlotte, NC, and finally to Greensboro, NC. Frances was pre-deceased by her 3 brothers, Russell, Edward, and Newton Boyce, and 3 sisters Nellie Boyce Ferguson, Florence Boyce Brooks, and Dorothy Boyce Kirkby. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Root Funeral Home in Greene, NY, followed by a service at 11:00 A.M. and interment in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery. A Memorial Service is being planned at Spring Arbor Assisted Living of Greensboro and will be announced at a later date. The family wishes to express its appreciation for the loving care and attention provided by Spring Arbor of Greensboro and by Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Village of Greene Memorial Fund, c/o Village Office, Greene, NY 13778. This trust fund was established by Newton Boyce in 1983 as a memorial to honor past residents of Greene while providing long-term benefit to the Village and the local public school system.
