Obituary of Denise Smith

Kernersville- Denise Ann Thorn Smith, 45, died March 4, 2007 after fighting valiantly through a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral Service is scheduled for 4:00 PM Wednesday at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at a later date. Born March 6, 1961 she was a native of Baltimore, Maryland. She was the daughter of Carolyn Hicks and William Paul Thorn. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents William Lee and Anne Dee Hicks. Survivors include her husband Ernest Reynolds Smith of the home; daughter Donna Tello of Greensboro; son Victor Smith and his wife Heather of Mayodan; mother Carolyn Hicks Sherrill of Walkertown; father Bill Thorn and his wife Brenda of Hampstead, MD; three grandchildren Sarah, Damian, and Lauren; paternal grandparents Paul and Georgia Thorn; sisters Candy Gibson and her husband Mike of Littlestown, PA, and Cindy Kraynie and her husband Dave of Chadds Ford, PA; brothers Tim Rhodes and his wife Christie of Parkville, MD, and Jeff Rhodes and his wife Victoria of Calabasas, CA; very special aunt and uncle Jean and Gordon Devese of Hampstead, MD, also Pat and Lou Bowen, Walt Thorn, Dee McConnell, Elizabeth Lindsey and her husband Jeff, Susan Hicks, Cindy Hicks, and Sharon Hicks; uncle Billy Hicks, and Chris Hicks and his wife Sarah; very special cousins Sarah, Redley, and Bella Peeples; sister-in-law Mary Williams of Greensboro; brothers-in-law Jerry Smith and his wife Cathy of Stokesdale, Weldon Smith of Madison, Dewey Smith and his wife Judy of Phoenix City, AL, Dennis Smith of Elon, and Keith Smith of Madison; ten nieces and nephews, many other cousins and extended family, including her godson Frank Nicholas Gibson. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Tuesday night at the funeral home.
