Obituary of Hettie Westmoreland

Colfax-Hettie Mae Shields Westmoreland, 96, went home to be with her Lord May 22, 2011. Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held 11:00AM Tuesday at Smith Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Chuck Peters and Kenneth Hedgecock, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Sandy Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery. A native of Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late Mattie Bell Gray Shields and Henry Carl Shields. She lived all her life in Colfax and graduated from Colfax High School. She was retired from Burlington Industries. She was a longtime member of Smith Grove Baptist Church where she taught the Young Girl's Sunday School Class for a number of years. She was the wife of the late Rev. J.W. Westmoreland and they were married for 62 years prior to his death in 1996. She also was preceded in death by her sister Emma Lee Shields Foss, and her brothers Sidney Shields and Gray Shields. Survivors include her daughters Mattie Mae W. Nuckles and husband Raymond of Colfax, and Carolyn Ann W. Hedgecock of High Point; grandchildren Angela N. Ammons and husband David, Jason Nuckles and wife Sheri, Kenneth Hedgecock, Jr. and wife Suzanne, and Michael Hedgecock, Sr. and wife Jayne; great-grandchildren Michael Hedgecock, Jr. and wife Lauren, Patrick Hedgecock,Megan Hedgecock, Ethan Hedgecock, Hillaire Nuckles, and Jacob Nuckles; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Monday evening at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home in Kernersville.
