Obituary of Anthony Marcolivio

Kernersville- Anthony Joseph Marcolivio “Tony”, 95, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2012 at Kerner Ridge Assisted Living in Kernersville, North Carolina. Born in Ridgway, Pennsylvania on February 9, 1917, he was one of seven children and the eldest son of the late Giuseppe and Michalina Marcolivio. Following graduation from Ridgway High School he entered the U.S. Postal Service as a rural route carrier in Ridgway. On January 21, 1942 he married his wife, Monica Joyce Largey. The two were married for 69 years until her death in 2011. Tony served honorably with the U.S. Army during WWII in both the North African and Italian theatres of operations. The Army took advantage of his linguistic skills by utilizing him as an interpreter with the U.S. Army Civil Affairs Group while stationed in Italy. After his discharge from the Regular Army he remained active with the U.S. Army Reserve in St. Marys, PA retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant with over 30 years of total service. He remained a resident of Ridgway, PA for 58 years during which he was an active member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, the Sons of Italy, the American Legion, the Ridgway Volunteer Fire Department, and the Ridgway Moose Lodge, serving for many years as its Secretary. He also continued his career with the U.S. Postal Service, and retired as the Ridgway Postmaster in 1974. His most cherished pastime was playing golf at the Elk County Country Club where he was recognized as one of its most accomplished golfers, winning the Club Championship in 1964. In 1975 Tony and Joyce relocated to the retirement community of Sun City, Arizona. They both loved Arizona, enjoying 35 years of golf and sunshine until 2008 when they both moved back to North Carolina to be near their family. Tony was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Monica Joyce; brothers James and Nicholas Marcolivio; sisters Lena and Anna DeCarolis, Genevieve Stenta, and Victoria Cole. Survivors include his son Michael Marcolivio and wife Joyce of Kernersville, NC; grandson Dana Marcolivio and wife Ashley of Thomasville, NC; three great-grandsons, Jett, Jaxx, and Jagger Marcolivio; and sister Molly Zimmerman of Boston, MA. Inurnment with full military honors will be held at Sun Land Memorial Cemetery in Sun City, AZ at a later date.
