Obituary of Donald Leonard

Mr. Donald Wayne Leonard, 57 , of Pine Knoll Place, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2009, at Moses Cone Hospital surrounded by his loving family. A celebration of life service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, in the chapel of Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service. Donald was born in Lexington, N.C., on January 4, 1952, the son of Donald Odell Leonard and the late Peggy Ann Knighton Leonard. He retired from Lorilard Tobacco and was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman. Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Essie Leonard and sister- in-law, Vivian Leonard. Surviving in addition to his father is his wife, Judy Elliott Leonard of Greensboro; a daughter, Tammy Thompson (Richard) of Greensboro; a son, Chad Leonard of Greensboro; a brother, Mike Leonard of Greensboro; sister, Brenda Mull (Gary) of Florida; four grandchildren, Drew and Morgan Leonard of Indian Trail, N.C., Addison and Sydney Johnson of Greensboro; two step grandchildren, Kala and Zach Thompson of Greensboro; god child, Kimberly Thomas of Greensboro. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the National Wildlife Federation, 11100 Wildlife Center Dr., Reston, VA 20190.
