Obituary of Ellen Ridgely Clemons

Mrs. Ellen Holmes Ridgely Clemons, 94 , of Greensboro passed away Thursday May 7, 2009 at Moses Cone Hospital following an illness. Ellen was born in Alexandria, Va. on July 14, 1914 the daughter of E. Gorman Ridgely and Ida Frank Carlin Ridgely. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Ellen was a gifted listener and kind counselor to many friends and family who confided in her. A gentle and humble witness for Jesus, she shared her reason for hope with those who asked. Ellen loved nature in all of its glory. She was a member of the North Carolina Wildflower Club, a lifelong member of the Eastern Star, she was a Gray Lady Volunteer at Childrens and Veterans Hospitals. Ellen was an ardent crossword puzzle solver. She was blessed with a clear mind and sharp wit which she put to good use throughout her life. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clell R. Clemons, Sr., a son David Wayne Clemons and three brothers Gorman Ridgely, Guy Ridgely and Stephen Ridgely and two sisters, Nell Kingsley and Margaret Collier. Surviving are one son Clell R. 'Sam' Clemons, Jr. (Jan) of Crows, Va.; three grandchildren, Clell R. 'Rick' Clemons, III (Janice) of Greensboro, David Stoughton Clemons of Greensboro and Laura Clay Clemons of Greenville; and four great-grandchildren, Clell R. Clemons IV, Anna Ridgely Clemons and Alexandria Clay Congleton and her much beloved nieces and nephews A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday in the Chapel of Lambeth-Troxler Funeral & Cremation Service. The Family will receive friends from 1:30 - 2:30 prior to the service. A Celebration of Life service will be held in Alexandria, Virginia on Monday May 11, 2009 at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM Sunday May 10, 2009 at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery Alexandria, Virginia.
