Margaret Snead

Obituary of Margaret Tippett Snead

Margaret Inez Tippett Snead Margaret Tippett Snead died peacefully Sunday night, June 13th. She was 87 and had lived her entire life in Greensboro. Margaret spent 30 years with the Greensboro City Schools in Child Nutrition; starting her career as Cafeteria Manager at Murphy Elementary and was Supervisor for all the school cafeterias before her retirement. She was well respected by all she worked with and the students often asked for recipes of their favorite foods to give to their mothers. Margaret was soon tired of her retirement and went to work for Crawford Rehabilitation Center and Sears & Roebuck Mail Order Center. In earlier years, Margaret loved to travel with her family and friends. She remembered her favorite trips to Nova Scotia, Canada, Savannah, Charleston, North and South Carolina beaches and the mountains. She was very talented in all sewing skills. However, her favorite was crocheting. Many family members were blessed with her gifts of crocheted tablecloths, bedspreads and Afghans with hundreds of hours of work in each. Our favorite were the crochet Christmas stockings that she made for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 'Maggie' never met a stranger; the family joke was that she would talk to a sign post and ask how it was doing. Maggie was predeceased by her husband Opie Snead, parents Ross and Mossie Tippett, son Opie (Toby) Snead, Jr. and brother Charles Tippett. She is survived by daughters Gretchen Toms and husband James, Sue Hawks and husband Jerry, Martha Swaim and husband David, son Richard T. Snead and wife Pat, all of Greensboro, daughter-in-law Jane Snead of Climax, N.C., sisters Francis Harris of Greensboro, Virginia Lambeth of Dunn, N.C., brothers Ralph Tippett and Robert Tippett (wife Janice) both of Greensboro, six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one step great grandchild, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. You were so proud of your family; bragging to anyone who would listen. We will miss your playful humor, your good cooking, and your strength. The family will receive friends at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home on Tuesday at 6:30 until 8:00 pm, with the graveside funeral at Guilford Memorial Park, in Greensboro at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 16. The family request that any donations be made to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or a charity of your choice.
