Obituary of Kary Victor Friend

During his years at Graham High School, Kary served as Manager to the athletic teams. On May 16th, it was Kary’s turn to be ushered onto God’s Field of Angels.  He was greeted by the loving embrace of his parents, grandparents, followed by “high-fives” from special nephews Andrew Gilliam and Lee Dobbs.  Then came his former mother-in-law, Glenda Bradley, with Aunt Deanie Jennings as well.  We miss and love him, but He is Home.

Born on June 13, 1954 to Victor and Betty Jean (Culler) Friend, Kary grew up in Bluefield VA.  He was a loving Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, devoted Grandfather and Great Grandfather.  He was a loyal Friend and Dedicated Employee.

Kary was a 1973 graduate of Graham High School.  He married Konnie Mills of Princeton, WV in 1979 while he was employed by Bluefield Supply.  They moved to Pulaski, VA, and then relocated to Kernersville, NC, where he was employed by Precision Fabrics Group (PFG) for 40 years.

Kary is survived by his former wife, Konnie Mills Friend, their two daughters, Heather Friend Hulin and Scarlet Friend. Grandchildren, Kaci Martin (Jerimiah Hawks), Hayli, Graci and Issac Hulin.  And on May 5th newborn Great-Granddaughter Ryleigh Ann Hawks.

Kary is also survived by sister Candace Friend Gilliam Hutton (Charlie) of Kingsport TN, brother John Friend (Brenda), Bristol VA, and brother David Friend, Bristol TN. Several nieces and nephews, as well as a large extended family and many friends.
