Obituary of Carol Mae Hawks
Mrs. Carol Mae Hawks, of 1509 19th Street, Greensboro, NC went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at her home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 15th at 12PM at the Pierce-Jefferson Lambeth Chapel in Greensboro. The family will greet friends from 11AM to 12PM before the service.
She was born on January 29, 1935 in Danville, Virginia, to John Caley and Gladys Mae Mitchell. Her and her family relocated to Greensboro when she was 14. She married Wilbert “Dink” Hawks on September 11, 1952, in Chesterfield, South Carolina and they had 3 children: Billy, Marsha and Jean. Together, they built a life filled with the love of family. Raising her children, volunteering at the Red Cross, and being an Assistant Leader in Girl Scouts. She even worked part time at Franklin Drug Store and Cone Mills White Oak Plant. She was baptized at Church Street Baptist Church in 1989. She faithfully prayed for the salvation of her husband and when he was saved in March of 2000, they joined Rankin Baptist Church in April of 2000. While there, she and Dink served faithfully in the sign ministry. She was a very kind, loving and generous woman to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her whole life was dedicated to loving her family, extended family, friends, and neighbors to the best of her abilities. She worked hard for her family and was always helping someone in need.
Survivors include children Marsha (Gary) Bottomley and Jean (Jack) Redden; daughter in law Cindy Hawks; daughter in-law Vina Hawks Swope mother of Alan and Leigh Ann; sisters Mildred Brice and Virginia Wilson; sister in law Norvella Hawks; grandchildren Alan (Lindsey), Leigh Ann (Chris), Brittany (William), Layne (Randall), Mitch, Will (Tracy), Caley (Sam), Tyler and Adam ( fiancée Spencer); great-grandchildren Cole, Justin, Madalyn, Matthew, Kaelyn, Kiera, Lily, Savannah, Evan, Lilly, Isabella, Josey and twin daughters to be born to Caley (Sam) in September, 2023 and loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert “Dink” Hawks; parents John Caley and Gladys Mae; brothers Mob, Bobby, and Roy Franklin; sister, Mary Alice; son, Billy; granddaughters Ashley and Addie.
A very special thank you to Marcia, Mary, Sandy and Laura for loving care during this past year. It means more to us than we can express.
