Obituary of Joseph "Joe" Edward Needham

Joseph “Joe” Edward Needham, of Kernersville, NC, transitioned to his heavenly home on May 8th, 2023, while surrounded by his loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Lucy Morris Needham, and his eldest son, Joseph “Kent” Needham. Joe is survived by his youngest son, Barry Needham (Rita) and his daughter-in-law, Liz Needham. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Austin Needham (Kristin), Ashley Gatewood (Jonathan), Brandon Needham (Ashlyn), Daniel Needham, and Tyler Needham, and five great grandchildren, Payton, Layla, Mady, Braxton, and Solomon. Also, one surviving brother, Warren Needham, and one surviving sister, Shirley Needham Simpson.

Joe was raised on a farm in Oak Ridge, NC. It was there he met his sweetheart, Lucy, or as he would call her “my beautiful darlin”. Joe served in the United States Army for two years and in the Reserves for six years. Joe is best known for his role as a local Barber. For over forty-five years, he would cut hair and chat with customers while they sipped on coffee. It was his favorite past time- coffee and good conversation.

Joe will be greatly missed as a father and granddaddy, but his family is comforted in the knowledge that he is now in the presence of Christ his Savior and is reunited with his “beautiful darlin” and loving son.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held 1:00PM Monday, May 15, 2023, at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Rob Decker and Austin Needham officiating. Interment will follow the service at Gardens of Memory Walkertown. The family will greet friends from 12:00PM to 12:45PM Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.
