Obituary of Daniel Lee Cockman

Mr. Daniel “Danny” Lee Cockman

Daniel “Danny” Lee Cockman, 72 of Kernersville, North Carolina went to be with our Heavenly Father on May 6, 2023, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his family in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Jerry and Virginia (Smith) Cockman and husband to Claudette Louise Cockman.

Danny graduated from Wake Forest Baptist Nursing School in 1972. He was one of the first of two males to graduate from this program. Danny served patients as a Registered Nurse for over 45 years. Danny worked at Watts Hospital of Durham NC, Durham Regional Hospital, the VA Medical Center, and retired from Duke University Hospital in 1997. From there he went on to do private duty nursing. Danny dedicated his life to caring for his patients and their families.

Danny loved nothing more than spending time with his wife, Claudette, his children, and grandchildren. Danny loved country music. He spent many years as a band member of Dale McGhee and the Ramblers as their drummer. Danny loved his trips to Daytona Beach, Florida with his family in the summers as well as his fishing trips with his brother, Jerry, to Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Danny was hardworking, caring, giving, witty, a story-teller, a devoted husband, daddy, and Paw-Paw. He will always be remembered for having a servant’s heart, and will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

Danny is survived by his wife of 44 years, Claudette Cockman; his children, Heather Morton and husband, Lee, Dana Brown and husband, Chad, Daniel Cockman and wife, Heather, and Tracey Logner; his grandchildren, Micah and Caleb Morton, Dakota, Sierra, and Sydney Brown, Jordan Johnson, and Koby Logner; his brother, Jerry Cockman; his sisters, Dawn Henry and husband, Tim, and Beth Collins and her husband, Tony; and his brother-in-law, Dave Mintz; and several nieces and nephews.
