Obituary of Mae Redmon Petticord

Mae R. Petticord passed away peacefully on April 14, 2023, at Oaks of Snellville Assisted Living where she lived for the past eight months. She was born in Walnut Cove, NC on May 31, 1926, she was 96 years old.

Mae married her childhood friend John C. Petticord on June 21, 1947, and started a family in Kernersville, NC. John was later transferred with his company to Georgia in 1965, so they moved to Lilburn, GA to continue raising their three children.

Mae was a long-time member of Harmony Grove UM Church where she participated in several ministries as well as singing in the choir. She loved gospel music, watching Atlanta Braves baseball and keeping watch over the comings and goings of her neighborhood.

Mae is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years John C. Petticord; daughter, Janice P. Hartness; seven brothers; five brothers-in-law; and twelve sisters-in-law. She loved and cherished her large family. She is survived by a son, Dale (Suzanne) A. Petticord; daughter, Ann (Gary) P. Stone; grandsons, Brandon Petticord, and Michael (Stephanie) Stone; granddaughter, Laura A. Stone; great granddaughters, Rosalie Stone, and Lily Stone. She will be missed by all her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews because they sure did love their “Aunt Mae” so very much.

A short graveside service will be held 3:00PM Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory, Kernersville, NC. The family will greet friends from 1:30PM to 2:30PM Thursday at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Kernersville Chapel prior to the graveside service.
