Just learned of Jerry's passing... such sad news. He built the first home for my young family and was always supportive and fair, such a nice man to work with. I have only fond memories of his support, generous nature and a willingness to listen. Even though I haven't seen him him in years I will miss him. RIP.

We only knew Jerry for a few years but it was like we had always known him. Jerry was the nicest person you could ever meet. He was always smiling and always made sure he spoke or waved at us. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. He will be greatly missed.

My prayers for peace and comfort for Mr. Medford’s Family during this time of grief. I was one of his first accounting students at Wayne in 1966 and 1967. I liked the manner in which he taught so much that I changed my major to accounting. That major aided me in many ways during my career, and sadly, I waited too late to thank him.

Jerry was a builder of homes, men, and families….he taught his children, others children, and anyone he came in contact with. He was humble, loving, nurturing, intelligent, wise, generous, patient, compassionate and so much more. He was everything he could be to everyone he met. He never turned this off and when you were with him you were the only person on the planet. You had his full undivided attention…….and he listened to every word. He also would give you his input as straight as you would ever get it. If you wanted the straight up honest truth about something, you got it exactly how you needed it to help you better yourself, as this was his ultimate goal. It was not about himself, it was about giving you what you needed to better yourself.
Now to the more personal side of my relationship with this incredible man. I didn’t have the greatest upbringing….I went to work for Jerry’s brother Craig Perryman. I didn’t have much of anything when I started. Jerry came on board with Craig and Jerry and I met immediately. Jerry noticed one wet snowy day that I didn’t have proper work boots and asked me why not and I explained that I had tennis shoes, it was all that I could afford. Jerry immediately pulled out $100 and gave to me to buy shoes. I explained to him I couldn’t take it as I didn’t know when I could pay him back. Without hesitation he said you take the money and pay me back when you can. Jerry also insisted all the time that I try to go back to school and get a degree to better myself. I eventually did just that. When I got out of school Jerry and I worked on the side with me drawing at least 200 homes for him. We spent a huge amount of time together working on home layouts and design. A lot of our time was in fellowship, me asking him a gawzillion questions about one thing or another. Even though we were working he never once blew off anything that I needed to discuss. I never made a major decision without picking up the phone and calling for Jerry’s advice. I respected him and his wise advice. He always finished the conversation with “pray about it and you’ll know what to do”. He was always right. Jerry is with Jesus right now. Jesus was a carpenter and builder just like Jerry. Their greatest work was being builders of men. I will never come close to being a good Christian or great man like Jerry Medford but with prayer and Jerry’s loving influence and guidance I will try my best.
On a funny loving note Jerry and I had nicknamed each other years ago……He called me Daffy Duck and I called him Huckleberry. We never spoke without addressing each other as such. I can hear him right now saying “what’s up Daffy Duck” and laughing. He was an incredible mentor and man,
He made me better just by being around him…..every time I was around him. I am so blessed by having him and his entire family in my life.
My heart goes out to Carolyn, Ashley, Carson and Jan.
I see Jerry’s influence and character in everyone close to him……especially his beautiful family. I think their love for Jerry certainly helped him greatly to be the man he was as well. There’s a whole lot of love in that family and they shared it with everyone. If you know them…..that’s a big Amen!!!
Jerry built our beautiful home in 1998. Around 1984 he started helping build me into a man. He finished the house in 1998.
Huckleberry……..thank you for all you did and meant to me and my family. I truly love and miss you.
