Evelyn Houseward

Obituary of Evelyn Alice Houseward

Evelyn Alice Houseward went too heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on January 5, 2023.  She is survived by her daughters, Judy McManus and Lois Bolhouse, her son-in-law John Bolhouse, and her son Ken Houseward.  She had two Grandchildren and seven Great-Grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart.

Evelyn was born in Prospect Park, NJ in 1929 to Alice and Peter Link.  She graduated from Eastern Christian High School where she later worked as a secretary.  She worked in claims at a local insurance agency which was not a good thing for a certain daughter when she had to call in an accident.

She and Herbert, aka “Bud” Houseward, were married after the war.  They were married over 50 years and always held hands.  They went to the same church in Prospect Park, NJ for many years and were involved in many activities until they moved out of town.

She was a woman of God who studied the Bible as a lifetime priority and lived her life with the mandate to love one another as God loves us.  She was involved in many activities all her life at church.  She enjoyed traveling all over the country with her two siblings and their spouses after retirement.  They all lived in different states but managed to stay connected.  Her interests included knitting, crocheting, and hosting family dinners on Sunday.  She was an excellent seamstress and made all our clothes when we were kids, which we usually enjoyed.

One of her favorite scriptures was 1st Corinthians Chapter 13, “These three things remain, Faith, Hope and Love, and the greatest of these is love.”

We think she would summarize her passing something like this:

My chains are gone, I’ve been set free

My God my Savior has ransomed me

And like a flood His mercy reigns

Unending Love, Amazing Grace.
