Dear family,
My heart aches from the grief that you are feeling.
Knowing of God's embracing love for you, continue looking to him when " he will wipe out all tears from our eyes, death, pain, and suffering will be no more. " - Revelation 21:3,4
He says death is an " enemy that will be brought to nothing. " - 1 Corinthians 15:26
It comforts our hearts to know this pain will be a thing of the past and through Christ the resurrection of our loved ones.
We " do not sorrow just as the rest do who have no hope ! " 1 Thessalonians 4:13
love from a stranger,

John was a precious person. He invited me to our Senior Dance and I was thrilled. His heart was as big as the ocean and he
saw only the good in people. I am a long distance runner, but not even close to John's class of running. I always said he had a "Billy Goat'" body.....one meant for toughness, for heat, for cold, for rain and the dark.
There is a quote I love and keep close and it applies to John totally!!!
"Running is about doing something difficult and not stopping.. WHEN IT BECOMES NOT JUST DIFFICULT, BUT
COLD AND DIFFICULT, OR COLD AND WET AND DIFFICULT, OR COLD AND WET AND DIFFICULT AND DARK!!"
He experienced all of this in his running and trainings for his marathons and ultras. What an awesome athlete he was and what an inspiration he was to me and so many others. Reading other tributes, I have learned that John truly kept his gentle soul and giving heart. My prayers go out to his family. And I know they must know that he loved them all with the same fierceness and strength and goodness that he gave to his life.

John was a good friend.. During my time as superintendent of schools and more recently as a County Commissioner, I talked with John "off the record" many times,. The school district, the Kernersville News, and the Kernersville police department founded Kernersville Cares for Kids (KCK) - a wonderful leadership opportunity for middle and high school students in the Kernersville area. John's desire to combat drug use and drug sales at local high schools led to the formation of KCK and the creation of a county wide recognition of the school district's It's My Call program. John managed the Kernersville News with the utmost integrity and always cared about getting the story right. The Kernersville community will miss the love and care expressed by John through the paper. I want to offer my deepest sympathy to his family during this difficult time.

So sorry to hear of John’s passing, we go back to basic training in Fort Knox Ky in 1970 . John & family when traveling to Myrtle Beach would take time and stop by my business in Marion just to say hello. He was a longtime friend. He will be missed.

My prayers are with you. John was such an advocate for me over the years. First covering the needs and cause of the homeless mission Peacegoods, then the Noise Ordinance issues. I'm sorry for your loss, and for Kernersville s loss, was a great man. May he rest in peace. God bless you and comfort you, Sheila DeFoor
