Obituary of Elaine Ruth Holt Isley

Elaine Holt Isley of Greensboro, NC, entered the more immediate presence of her Lord and Savior on May 18, 2022 while at home surrounded by family. 

Married February 24, 1951, she was the devoted wife of the late Charles Lee Isley. Born in Rockingham County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Lester Lee Mitchell Holt and Kelley Holt. After attending High School in Oak Ridge, NC, she began a career at Sears & Roebuck Co, where she would work for over 40 years. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, and homemaker who loved her family with a passion. Elaine was an avid supporter of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities through the years. She loved the outdoors, sporting events, and spending time with family and friends. Her spunk and jesting spirit were always backed by such love, grace and generosity towards her family and friends. Blessed with the gift of hospitality, many enjoyed her wonderful meals. Elaine attended Moravia Moravian church in Oak Ridge, NC for nearly nine decades; her church family and friends were always cherished.

In retirement, Elaine enjoyed the company of her late husband, Charles, shopping trips with her daughter, Laurie, lunch and other dates with her son, Michael, and taking in her grandchildren’s countless softball and baseball games all over the country. She always looked forward to beach trips and fun activities while on vacation.

In her later years, she enjoyed time with her family, talking to her friends on the phone, and cooking for anyone who came to visit. She will be dearly missed by so many who loved and cherished her. The family is grateful for the time we shared together and the lessons of strength, hope and kindness she imparted to us. We rejoice in the hope that we all will be reunited with our beloved “mom”, “mawmaw”, and “Elaine” again in Heaven one day. We have all been blessed to have this woman of faith and love in our lives for so many years.

Elaine is survived by her son, Michael Isley and husband, Kevin Mundy, of Winston-Salem; daughter, Laurie Isley Summers and husband, Harold Summers, of Greensboro; grandchildren, Houston Summers and wife, Emily Godwin Summers, of Chapel Hill, Holly Summers and Josh Zumbrook of Summerfield, and Hayden Summers of Greensboro; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lee Isley, her five brothers and four sisters.

A celebration of Elaine’s life will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Moravia Moravian Church, 2920 Oak Ridge Rd, Oak Ridge, NC 27310. Family visitation will be from 2:00 to 2:45 PM in the Hearthside Room followed by a 3 PM service in the Sanctuary.  A brief burial service will follow in the Moravia Moravian God’s Acre outside the church.
