I just received notification of Andy's passing. My condolences to the family. I "grew up" with Andy during our formative years at the Lee Company. He was a very knowledgeable industrial engineer, and generous with his knowledge. We had a strong peer group of young, ambitious guys/gals there, & we enjoyed pushing ourselves & each other to be better & contribute more. Engineering at it's essence is about problem solving. You define the problem/desired outcome, look at many alternative paths, & design the most beneficial & efficient solution. Andy understood that process well. What was special about him, was that he never just accepted the logical outcome as the best we could do. He loved to "blue sky" ideas & alternatives that were radical & at a glance seemed impractical -- & often that was the case. Engineering is mostly about incremental improvement. Taking a process & examining the nuances to find small improvements in efficiency & effectiveness. But once in a while it can be a revolution rather than an evolution. That takes "outside the box" thinking & imagining a totally different approach & methodology. Andy had that ability. Many ideas & many dead ends -- but when lightning struck it was a thing of beauty! Andy had a great sense of humor, & took as good as he gave. He had a solid career at Lee as an Engineer & Plant manager, but it wasn't a surprise when he became a consultant. He loved to teach & he loved to imagine, & consulting takes both skills. I 'm better for knowing Andy. God bless him, & may he rest in Peace! Terry Lay President Lee Co. 1996 -- 99.

Andy will be greatly missed. I appreciated his love for family and church, as well as his always welcoming me to visit with his precious puppy, whom he entrusted to my care several times. Mary, May you find peace in knowing that he is resting with Christ.

Andy was a great man! I'll miss seeing him around the church, and talking about each week's NASCAR race.
So sorry for your loss!
