Obituary of Barry Lee Thornton, Jr.

On Saturday, April 2, 2022 Barry Lee Thornton, Jr. loving husband, son, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 59.

Barry was born on October 2, 1962 in Bluefield, WV to the late Barry Lee Thornton, Sr. and Shirley Ann Harmon.  He graduated from Spanishburg High School in 1980.

Barry was a dedicated employee of Carolina Hydraulics for 38 ½ years.  He enjoyed baseball, basketball (especially his WVU Mountaineers), bowling and playing golf with his son Justin, his best friend.  Not only was he Madison’s grandfather, he was another dad to her and she was the light of his life, and he always relied on Mackenzie for a good laugh.  In recent years, he discovered cruising and found cruise ships to be his happy place.

Barry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lisa; mother, Shirley Thornton; only son, Justin and wife Ashlea;  granddaughter, Madison and fiancé, Dylan and granddaughter, Mackenzie; one brother, Jeff Thornton; father and mother-in-law, Jack and Jean Parson; sister-in-law, Stacy Smith and husband, Craig; two nieces, Abby and Sadie Smith; two nephews, Jared and Jason Thornton; and extended family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, April 9, at 11:00 at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Jarret Floyd officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Gur Cemetery, Kernersville, NC.  The family will greet friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
