Obituary of Dewey Thomas McGee
Dewey Thomas “Tommy” McGee, 85, of McLeansville, passed away on Wednesday, February 23rd in Greensboro. A native of Stokesdale, he was the son of the late Dewey and Lala Powers McGee and husband of the late Dorothy “Dot” McGee. Tommy was a contractor and a veteran of the US Army. He loved steam-engine trains and was a huge fan of NASCAR. He was devoted to all his children and grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him (along with everyone else) as, “Poppy.” Tommy was a talented craftsman and an animal-lover, having had many dogs over the years. He was an avid gardener and very proud of his tomatoes.
He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Hilliard and her fiancée, Howard Shoe of McLeansville; a son, Leo Snow of Greensboro; a brother, Leon McGee and his wife, Karen of Stokesdale; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 2nd from 12 to 2 p.m. at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services, Lambeth Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Park, Greensboro with Pastor Joe Chandler officiating. The family has requested that all visitors wear masks during the visitation.
