Obituary of Joseph Carlson "Joe" Cockman, Jr.

Joseph Carlson “Joe” Cockman, Jr., 71, of Kernersville, NC passed away peacefully Friday, October 8, 2021.

A native of Guilford County, NC, Joe was the husband of 45 years to Judy McGee Cockman and the son of Joseph Carlson Cockman, Sr. and Dorothy Louise Moore Cockman, both deceased. Joe loved his family, dearly and life, in general. He was a hard worker and was still employed at the time of his death. Joe was the Property Control Supervisor at the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office for fifteen years. He drove a tour bus for American Charters and Holiday Tours. Joe was currently employed with Piedmont Triad Regional Council. He loved music and over the years played in many Country Bands. In the last several years, he mostly enjoyed playing Gospel Music and singing for the Lord with Paid For. Joe loved his church, Charity Baptist in Belews Creek, NC.

Surviving him is his wife, Judy; three daughters, Julie Lowery (Lawrence Garner), Denise Masters (Mack), and Dawn Hunley and very loving and caring son-in-law, Rosco Hunley; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; and two brothers, Billy Cockman (Reba), and Gary Cockman (Lesia Osborne). Joe was a Pawpaw and Popu to many. He had many nieces and nephews that were special to him.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Cockman whom he is celebrating their Heavenly Reunion.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held 2:00PM Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Welcome Door Baptist Church, with Pastor Charles Kahn and Pastor Clayton Reid officiating. Entombment will follow at the Gardens of Memory Walkertown Mausoleum. The family will greet friends from 1:00PM to 1:45PM Saturday prior to the service at the church.
